Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Polidocanol is the non-proprietary term for a medication used to treat small varicose veins. As a sclerosant agent, the medication irritates the cells inside blood vessels, ultimately causing them to be replaced with tissue.
Those planning to buy Polidocanol should be aware this medication can only be administered by injection. It also requires some post-administration care, which usually lasts only about a week but can last for a month or more in some cases.
Polidocanol can be a little difficult to get started with, but results are excellent in almost 90 percent of users. Varicose veins are noticeably less visible after 2 weeks, with maximum results seen between 1 and 2 months.
Understanding Polidocanol
Those who buy Polidocanol will receive ampules of the medication. Each ampule contains 2 mL of fluid meant for injection. Ampules do not need to be refrigerated, but should be stored in a cool, dark place.
About 0.1 to 0.3 mL will be needed for inch of skin; 0.1 for very small veins 1 mm in diameter or smaller, and 0.3 for larger veins 3 mm or smaller. The medication should not be used in veins larger than 3 mm.
As most patients have more than an inch of varicose veins, multiple injections are common in a single session. However, patients should not use more than a total of 10 mL in a single session, even if some varicose veins remain untreated. Wait at least a week or two between sessions.
Patients who buy Polidocanol will also need:
Additionally patients will need to be able to:
Those who can comply with all of the above are ready to buy Polidocanol. Compression is particularly important; it prevents the clots formed by Polidocanol from breaking free and traveling through the bloodstream, which can lead to serious complications like deep vein thrombosis.
Using Polidocanol
Each package of Polidocanol contains detailed instructions on use and risks; this should be reviewed thoroughly before starting. Many patients who buy Polidocanol will also have a doctor involved to some degree, though if the medication is being administered at home this may be minimal.
The medication should only be injected into a varicose vein. Injecting into surrounding tissue will be painful and not produce any benefit; it may produce pock marks or small scars, but is not life-threatening. Injecting the medication into an artery can be fatal, though this is practically impossible to do.
Polidocanol should be expelled from the needle very slowly; this prevents the vein from rupturing and also helps keep medication from leaking out when the needle is removed.
If doing multiple injections, immediately move to the next vein after one is treated. Ideally the whole session will last less than 45 minutes. Once complete, immediately apply compression stockings and walk for 15 to 20 minutes.
Compression stockings (or some equivalent) should be worn continuously for the next three days, even while sleeping. Likewise walking for at least 15 to 20 minutes should be carried out daily for the next three days, and extreme inactivity, excess heat, and so forth should be avoid for at least three days.
After the first three days compression stockings should be worn during waking hours for at least another three to seven days. Depending on a variety of circumstances, such as age, weight, size of area treated, and so forth, compression may be advisable for up to a month. Likewise walking and avoiding activities. Basically, the higher the risk of blood clots the longer these should be maintained.
Visible improvements should be noticeable two weeks after administration, with nearly full benefit seen after one month. Gradual improvements may continue for up to two months or longer. The same area should not be re-treated until at least two months have passed.
